š ONE THOUGHT
When Momentum Shifts, Everything Changes

Nothing seemed to go our way for the first 30 minutes of our section semifinal game this year.
We got down early, and we were down 15-20 points for most of the game.
We kept fighting, got it to 10 or 11 a few timesā¦
But we just couldnāt get over the hump.
It had the feeling of āone of those games.ā
But our guys kept battling, competing, and wouldnāt go away.
And then, it happenedā¦
One of our senior leaders, who had been steady all year, made a winning play. He grabbed an offensive board off a missed free throw and put it back in.
Suddenly, the lead was under 10. It was the first time we had gotten the lead under 10 points since the start of the game.
That one play lit a spark.
Over the next 4 minutes, I witnessed one of the most unforgettable stretches of basketball Iāve ever been a part of.
We couldnāt miss.
Things went our way. We made winning plays. You could feel it. The other team could feel it. The packed arena could feel it.
The gym exploded!
We pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in our programās history and earned a trip to the section championship!
All because of momentum.
A contagious energy. An energy you create with your attitude, effort, and through making winning plays after winning plays.
What Momentum Teaches Us
It often starts with one play.
Not a highlight reel. A hustle play. A rebound. A charge. Something small that changes everything.Itās contagious.
When belief builds, it spreads. Body language changes. Energy shifts. The game tilts. You have to be ready for the moment.
The tide doesnāt turn if your team isnāt locked in and prepared to pounce when the opportunity comes.
For Coaches and Teams:
If youāre in a tough stretch, on the court or just in life, the message is clear.
Keep fighting. Keep making āwinning plays.ā Momentum doesnāt announce its arrival.
It sneaks in through consistent effort and belief, and one person doing the right thing at the right time.
And then it happens.
Momentum is a contagious energy that is sparked through consistently doing the right things and focusing on making āwinning plays.ā
Make sure you are ready for it.
