We often hear that leaders arenāt born, theyāre made. But how do we actually make leaders?
It comes down to two key pieces:
Skills ā teaching kids what leadership is, what it looks like, and how it sounds.
Opportunity ā giving them a chance to practice it before the real moment arrives.
So let me ask you:
How are you giving your players the skills to lead? Are you teaching them how to communicate? How to handle conflict? How to build trust?
And how are you giving them opportunities to lead? Are you letting them run a drill? Speak to the team before a game? Handle a tough situation in the locker room?
If we donāt create both skill and opportunity, kids wonāt be ready when leadership moments show up.

We have to train them.
