💭 ONE THOUGHT
Comparison Kills Confidence

We all do it.
Scroll. Watch. Measure.
And without realizing it, we’re playing a game we can’t win.
This hits young coaches the hardest.
You see other programs, other records, other “shiny” successes… and suddenly it feels like something is wrong with you. Or your team. Or your process.
But here’s the truth:
Comparison doesn’t motivate. It drains.
It robs players of joy. It steals confidence. It shifts focus from what matters most — getting better.
Athletes feel this more today than ever. Every highlight. Every ranking. Every comment section. Someone out there always seems farther ahead.
I tell our players this:
“The grass is the greenest where you water it the most!”
Water your own grass.
Focus on your habits, your reps, your progress.
Confidence grows when you keep your eyes on your lane.
Because the moment we stop comparing, we start competing, with purpose, with clarity, and with belief.
Your players don’t need to be like anyone else.
They just need to be a better version of themselves than yesterday.

Reflection Questions:
Do you find yourself comparing your team or coaching journey to others?
What’s one way you can help your players focus on progress over comparison this week?
Good luck!
