💭 ONE THOUGHT
The Two Words That Shape Your Life

Two words shape your life: I am.
What you attach to those words becomes your identity.
“I am not good enough.” → You shrink.
“I am a learner.” → You grow.
“I am a leader.” → You act like one.
I’ve watched players destroy their confidence because of what followed “I am.”
One miss. One mistake. One game. Suddenly, their identity became: “I am a failure.”
The game didn’t beat them; their self-talk did.
But I’ve also seen the opposite. The player who said:
“I am tough.”
“I am prepared.”
“I am resilient.”
Those words didn’t erase failure, but they shaped the response to it. The language built a different habit. They bounced back faster, worked harder, and inspired teammates along the way.
Here’s the truth:
Your thoughts become your words.
Your words become your habits.
Your habits become your life.
That’s why coaches and leaders need to pay attention to language. Not just the words we use with our team, but the words we allow them to use with themselves.
“I am lazy.” becomes real.
“I am disciplined.” becomes real.
One path shrinks you. The other expands you.
So here’s the challenge:
What are your “I am” statements right now?
Which ones do you need to erase?
Which ones do you need to write in bold and live out every day?
Because sooner or later, “I am” becomes “I did.”
Reflect with your team…
What “I am” statement is holding you back?
What new “I am” statement could unlock growth for you or your team?
Good Luck!

Commitments are greater than goals!
I once made a team rip up their goals, and they were ready to rip up me.
But then we rewrote the story.Because the truth is: goals don’t get you to greatness.

Commitments are what you live.If you
