💭 ONE THOUGHT

Many years ago, I had a player tell me his goal was to score 1,000 points in his career.
It was a good goal. Ambitious. Inspiring.
But here’s what I told him:
“Points are the outcome. Commitments are what get you there.”
I asked him: What will you do every day that proves you’re serious about that goal?
Because the truth is simple:
Anyone can set a goal.
But a goal is just a destination.
A commitment is the road you’re willing to walk, every single day, to get there.
Here’s the Difference
A goal says: “I want to be in great shape.”
A commitment says: “I will work out 5x per week.”
A goal says: “I want to be a better teammate.”
A commitment says: “I will bring energy, encouragement, and effort every day.”
A goal says: “I want to win.”
A commitment says: “I will do the hard stuff no one sees, even when it’s not fun.”
Why This Matters
Goals are about outcomes.
Commitments are about actions.
One talks. The other works.
And the best teams I’ve been around? They don’t just set goals at the start of the year. They build daily commitments and hold each other accountable to them.
That’s why they grow. That’s why they win.
What You Can Do With Your Team
Ask your players this question:
👉 “What are you committed to doing every day, regardless of how you feel?”
Then go deeper:
What do your actions say about your commitment?
Are your habits aligned with your goals?
What would happen if the whole team went all-in on commitments?
If you really want your program to grow, shift the conversation.
One More Thought
Anyone can dream big.
But champions do small things with big consistency.
So stop asking, “What’s your goal?”
Start asking, “What’s your commitment?”
Good Luck!
Greg
P.S. If you want your players to stop talking about what they want and start showing what they’re willing to do, the Team Leader OS can help. It gives you the tools to turn leadership into action.
