šŸ’ ONE THOUGHT
The 13 Rules of Being Relentless

"You donā€™t have to love the work, but youā€™re addicted to the results."

Tim Grover

Most people wait for motivation. The great ones donā€™t.

They donā€™t need a hype speech. They donā€™t rely on a coach, a teammate, or an external spark.

They show up. Every day. No matter what.

Iā€™ve been fortunate to coach a couple of players like this. You donā€™t have to push them; they push themselves. And they raise the standard for everyone else.

Tim Grover calls them Cleaners ā†’ The athletes and leaders who are relentless in their pursuit of excellence.

The ones who never let up.

The ones who donā€™t stop when they win because the work is never finished.

  • Michael Jordan? Cleaner

  • Tom Brady? Cleaner

  • Kobe Bryant? Cleaner

  • Serena Williams? Cleaner

These are the competitors who dominate because they think differently.

They attack challenges with a mindset built on discipline, resilience, and an obsession with winning.

If you want to reach that level, not just in sports but also in leadership, business, or life, you need to follow these 13 Cleaner Rules (from Tim Grover and his book Relentless).

The 13 Cleaner Rules (And How You Can Use Them)

1: You keep pushing when everyone else has had enough.
Most people stop when theyā€™re tired. Cleaners stop when theyā€™re done, and even then, theyā€™re already thinking about whatā€™s next.

Action: Push yourself 10% further today than you did yesterday. Small increases add up to dominance.

2: You get into the zone and control the uncontrollable.
When the pressure is highest, Cleaners lock in. The noise disappears, the distractions fade, and they control the moment.

Action: Identify one situation where you get distracted. Fix it. Set a plan to stay locked in.

3: You know exactly who you are.
Cleaners donā€™t fake confidence. They arenā€™t searching for validation. They know their strengths, weaknesses, and what makes them different.

Action: Whatā€™s your competitive edge? Own it. Double down on it.

4: You have a dark side that refuses to be taught to be good.
That fire inside youā€”the one that refuses to settle? Thatā€™s what separates you. Cleaners channel it into their work.

Action: Stop apologizing for your intensity. Use it to fuel your preparation.

5: You thrive under pressure.
Most people run from pressure, but cleaners run toward it. Pressure doesnā€™t scare them; it sharpens them.

Action: Reframe stress as an opportunity. Pressure is a privilege.

6: When chaos hits, everyone looks to you.
Cleaners donā€™t panic. When everything goes wrong, they step up and find a way to win.

Action: The next time things go sideways, donā€™t react emotionally. Stay calm and focus on solutions.

7: You donā€™t compete; you attack weaknesses.
Good players play hard. Great players play smart. The best players? They find an opponentā€™s weakness and exploit it.

Action: Study your competition (or yourself) and find a gap. Then attack.

8: You make decisions, not suggestions.
Cleaners donā€™t wait for permission. They act. They decide. And they donā€™t second-guess.

Action: Stop hesitating. Make a decision today and follow through.

9: You donā€™t have to love the work, but youā€™re addicted to the results.
Discipline beats motivation. Every time. Cleaners show up even when they donā€™t feel like it.

Action: Train yourself to execute no matter how you feel.

10: Youā€™d rather be feared than liked.
Cleaners arenā€™t in it for approval. They donā€™t chase popularity. They chase greatness.

Action: Stop worrying about what others think. Focus on earning respect, not approval.

11: You trust very few people, and they better not let you down.
Cleaners donā€™t rely on a big circle. They keep their team small, tight, and full of people they can count on.

Action: Audit your circle. Who actually makes you better? Who drains your energy? Adjust accordingly.

12: You donā€™t recognize failureā€”thereā€™s always another way to win.
A Cleaner never sees a dead endā€”only another way forward. They adapt, adjust, and attack.

Action: The next time you fail, reframe it. What did you learn? Whatā€™s the next move?

13: You donā€™t celebrate victories because you always want more.
Most people achieve a goal and relax. Cleaners hit a goal and immediately set another. The work is never done.

Action: Celebrate for a secondā€”then get back to work.

Cleaner Challenge: Are You Ready?

This isnā€™t for everyone. Most people will read this and thinkā€¦That sounds intense.

Cleaners read it and think, That sounds right.

If you want to separate yourself, it wonā€™t happen by accident.

It happens by training your mind, sharpening your skills, and refusing to let up when everyone else does.

Are you willing to do what others wonā€™t?

Good Luck
Greg
