💭 ONE THOUGHT
50 Ways to Impact Winning

Most teams talk about winning, but very few actually can define it.
And almost nobody tracks what it takes.
The New York Knicks are NBA Champions.
Ask most people why they won and you'll hear things like:
Jalen Brunson
Toughness
Defense
Chemistry
Coaching
All true. But championships are rarely won because of one thing. They're won because hundreds of small things stack up over time.
The reality is this: Winning is not one behavior. Winning is a collection of behaviors. That's why I recently created a free resource called 50 Ways to Impact Winning.
It’s a FREE download. 👇

Because every player on a team should be able to answer one question:
"How do I help us win today?"
Not everyone can score 30 points, but everyone can impact winning.
Here are five ways the Knicks “impacted winning” throughout their championship run.
1. Own Your Role Fully
Championship teams don't have everybody trying to be the star. They have everybody embracing their role.
The Knicks knew exactly who they were.
Brunson led.
Role players defended.
Veterans brought stability.
Bench players stayed ready.
Too many teams struggle because players want a different role instead of maximizing the one they have.
The best teams understand: Role acceptance creates team success.
2. Make the Unselfish Play
Winning teams trust each other.
The extra pass.
The hockey assist of “Gretzky.”
The screen that frees a teammate.
The rotation that prevents a basket.
Most winning plays never make the highlight reel, but they win championships. The Knicks consistently chose "we" over "me,” and that's what great teams do.
3. Bring Energy When You Don't Feel Like It
An 82-game season is long. A playoff run is exhausting.
Nobody feels great every day.
But championship teams learn how to bring energy anyway.
Energy is a choice.
The best leaders understand that their attitude becomes contagious. The Knicks never relied on feelings. They relied on their standards.
4. Stay Positive When Things Go Bad
Every championship team faces adversity.
Bad calls. Bad losses. Injuries. Momentum swings.
The difference is not avoiding adversity. The difference is responding to it.
The Knicks were down double digits in the 4th quarter of EVERY game they won in this series. Think about that. They never quit.
They consistently demonstrated a next-play mentality. They stayed focused on what they could control.
5. Think Team First Always
This might be the most important one.
Championships happen when individuals sacrifice for something bigger than themselves.
Talent matters, but connected teams beat talented teams more often than people realize.
The Knicks played for each other. And that showed up every night. Just ask Josh Hart…👇
The Coaching Lesson
The biggest mistake coaches make is assuming players know what winning looks like.
Most don't.
They know the scoreboard. They know points. They know stats. But they don't always know the behaviors that create those outcomes.
That's why we must teach winning.
Define it.
Measure it.
Celebrate it.
And reinforce it every day.
Because winning isn't one thing. It's many things. And the teams that understand that usually end up holding the trophy.
Be great!
Greg
P.S. I created a free resource called 50 Ways to Impact Winning that outlines 50 daily habits players can use to help their team succeed. From communication and accountability to effort, leadership, and discipline, it gives coaches a practical framework for teaching what winning actually looks like.
