💭 ONE THOUGHT
What 300 Coaches Wish They Knew Sooner

The Best Coaching Wisdom Comes From Coaches Who've Lived It
While building my course Better Coach OS, I asked 300+ coaches one simple question:
What is the best piece of coaching wisdom you've learned that other coaches should know?
The responses were incredible.
Some were short. Some were powerful.
And many were reminders every coach needs to hear.
Here are a few that stood out.
Coaching Wisdom From 300 Coaches
1. Encourage what you want to see.
Too many coaches only correct mistakes.
The best coaches also reinforce what they want repeated.
Effort. Communication. Teamwork.
Players repeat what gets noticed.
2. Relationships come first.
You can have great schemes and great drills.
But if players don't trust you, or each other, it won't matter.
Culture always shows up when things get hard.
3. Kids like accountability.
Players may resist it at first.
But deep down, they want structure, clarity, and standards.
Accountability tells players: “You matter enough for me to expect more from you.”
4. Be where your feet are.
When you're at practice, be at practice.
When you're at home, be at home.
Great coaches learn to focus on the moment they are in.
5. You can’t please everyone.
Playing time. Roles. Decisions.
Not everyone will always agree.
Your job is not to make everyone happy.
Your job is to lead with honesty and fairness.
6. Be clear and consistent.
Confusion creates frustration.
Players need to know:
• What is expected
• What the standards are
• What success looks like
Clarity builds confidence.
7. Work hard to help your best players be your best leaders.
Talent without leadership rarely wins consistently.
When your best players model the right behaviors, the entire team follows.
Leadership spreads.
8. Culture is built in small moments.
How players talk to each other.
How they respond to mistakes.
How do they treat the last player on the bench?
Culture shows up in daily habits.
9. Coaching is more about teaching than winning.
Wins matter.
But the real impact of coaching happens through the lessons players carry long after the season ends.
Confidence. Discipline. Resilience.
Those lessons last longer than any scoreboard.
Free Coaching Resource
Because the responses were so valuable, I compiled them into a free resource for coaches.
Inside, you’ll find dozens of insights, reminders, and lessons shared by coaches across multiple sports and levels.
Coaching Wisdom:
It's the kind of resource you can read before the season, share with your staff, or use as discussion points with your team.
Final Thought
One of the best ways to grow as a coach is simple.
Learn from others.
Every coach you meet has lessons you can learn from. Some from success. Some mistakes. And some from wisdom gained over time.
The best coaches never stop learning.
Good luck!

P.S. The free download is a great start. If you want the full system to coach with more clarity, confidence, and consistency, that’s what Better Coach OS is built for.
I’m also finishing up the Parent Communication Playbook, which will be included inside when complete.
If you get it now, you’ll get access when it’s released. Better Coach OS is 25% off for a limited time.
