šŸ’ONE THOUGHT
The Real MVP!

Who is the Real MVP in the life of a Coach?

To me, that answer is easy.

The spouse of a coach.

I know I would not have been able to coach as long as I have without my very supportive wife, Heidi. Coaching is a calling, and it can consume us as coaches. You need a special spouse to make it work if you are married.

Why is this?

Coaching is not easy. And often, being a coach's spouse can be even harder.

  • They often sit alone

  • They hear all the critics

  • They see and experience the highs and lows

They are often in the background, behind the scenes, yet they have a tremendous impact on a coach's and team's lives. They can determine whether a coach sticks with it or not.

And these times are not always easy!

I remember a few times, especially when our kids were young when the stress of me being gone rose in our house. My wife would get frustrated and vent to her parents, and her parents would always chuckle and sayā€¦

ā€œYou knew what you were getting into when you married him!ā€

I always appreciated this response! šŸ˜‰

Coaching is a calling, and it takes a special person to be the spouse of a coach.

Here are 8 Reasons why the Spouse of a Coach is the true MVP.

1. Emotional Rock - Coaching is hard, with many highs and lows. Spouses are the emotional rock, providing support even when the world seems against them or when times are tough.

2. Sacrifices - Coaches are often out late at night playing, preparing, traveling, and strategizing. The spouse often holds down the fort at home. They manage the household and keep the familyā€™s life running smoothly.

3. Silent Partner - Many spouses are sounding boards for coaches. They listen to the post-game analysis, offer feedback, and help see things from a different perspective, all while staying in the background.

4. Strength in Solitude - Game days can be lonely, especially for a coach's spouse. The spouse often sits alone, hearing every critique from the stands. They endure the tough moments silently, standing by their partner through thick and thin.

5. Cheerleader - In a profession filled with pressure and uncertainty, the coachā€™s spouse is often the first to offer encouragement and belief. They provide the fuel and drive to keep going, even after tough losses.

6. Anchor in the Storm - The coach's spouse remains constant when the job demands pull the coach in every direction. They provide the stability that allows the coach to focus on their team and responsibilities.

7. Remember Priorities - In the busy coaching world, itā€™s easy to lose sight of whatā€™s most important. The coachā€™s spouse often helps maintain balance, reminding the coach that family comes first, no matter what.

8. Love - At the heart of it all is love. This love endures long seasons, tough losses, and relentless schedules. It keeps the coach grounded and motivated to be the best they can be.

In the world of coaching, where wins and losses are what people see, the coachā€™s spouse is the unseen hero!

To all the spouses who stand by us coachesā€¦

Thank You!

You are the True MVP!
