💭 ONE THOUGHT
Honor Winning

Winning is a lifestyle. It is a way of life.

You do not just win some of the time; you must win all of the time. Otherwise, it is fleeting and it is “fickle.”

That is what Max Homa said as he took 2nd place at the Masters Golf Tournament this past spring.

Max Homa took second at the Masters. Only one player could win in the entire field.

Caitlin Clark and the Iowa girls’s Basketball team took second in the NCAA Tournament.

Our boy’s basketball team took second this past season in the state tournament.

Only one team or individual in golf actually “wins," yet all who can get to that point are “winners” due to the definition of “the process being the prize.”

Winning is a mindset. The process is the prize.

This is why so many competitors and athletes always talk about the “process.”

So, to truly be a winner, you must HONOR what winning takes.

Here are 8 Ways to Honor Winning

1. Stay Humble

Humble Wins.

Giannis Antetokounmpo said it best.

“When you focus on your past, that is your ego. When you focus on the future, that is your pride. When you focus on the present, that is humility.”

Wise beyond his years.

2. Create Great Habits

The best players, athletes, and teams usually have one thing in common: They have the best habits. Habits are how you live your life, and winners have great habits. Want to win? Change your habits.

3. Be a True Competitor

Winning in life is about competition. And I do not mean competition with others, but mostly competition with yourself. When you compete with yourself, you are always striving to be the best version of yourself that you can be. When you have this approach to life, you inevitably create a winning lifestyle.

4. Focus on the Process

As mentioned earlier, winners are process-orientated. Much like the Bamboo Tree, years of growth and development must occur behind the scenes before true growth shows up for all to see. Check out this video of football coach Steve Jones discussing Watering the Bamboo.

5. Earn your Confidence

There is nothing much worse than fake confidence. But on the other end, nothing is more powerful than confidence earned. Winners know that they need confidence to be successful. They also know that they earn everything they get.

6. Have a Team-First Mindset

Winning teams are selfless. They have a We-First mindset in all they do. They know, accept, and thrive in their roles. The strength of the individual feeds the strength of the team, and vice versa. If you are on a team, ensure you and your teammates think We-First.

7. Show Good Sportsmanship

Sportsmanship matters. Those with winning mindsets can compete at a high level and respect the game and themselves enough to show good sportsmanship, too.

Check out this video of the Best Sportsmanship Moments in Sports History.

8. Connect with your Teammates

Finally, a winning mindset and winning teams are connected teams. To think We-First, you must connect with your teammates. How can you do this? A great place to start is with Steve Nash and the power of “touches and EGBs.” Check it out: Steve Nash Video - EGBs

Summary:

Winning is a way of life. You cannot win some of the time. It needs to be a lifestyle and a habit. Follow these 8 Ways to Honor Winning to get off to a great start for you and your team.
